HSS clinician-scientists Mary K. Crow, MD, and Jane E. Salmon, MD, have been HSS colleagues for decades. While Dr. Crow is best known for her work in helping to elucidate the cellular and molecular mechanisms of lupus and rheumatoid arthritis, Dr. Salmon’s discoveries have contributed to our understanding of the underlying causes of pregnancy complications and miscarriage in patients with lupus and antiphospholipid syndrome.
This past year marked new milestones in their respective careers. In August, Dr. Salmon was awarded the 2020 Insight Prize from the Lupus Research Alliance, and in September Dr. Crow headed back into the lab after ten years of service as Physician-in-Chief and Chair of the Rheumatology Division at HSS. To honor these achievements, the pair got together in November for a wide-ranging video conversation in which they interview each other about their work, the importance of mentoring, current trends in lupus research, and what motivates them.
